Radio continuum observations
Scientists can use something called radiofrequency waves (you might know these as the same thing that makes Wi-Fi work!) to spot the remains of galactic playmates who got stripped away.
Technical definition
Observations made using radio telescopes to detect signals from celestial objects, such as star-forming regions or active galactic nuclei.
