Radiative transfer effects

With all those lights moving and swirling together, scientists realized that something interesting happens to Lyα photons near Tadpole Galaxies. Sometimes they stay close to the stars where they were born; other times they spread out into these huge halos around the galaxy.

Technical definition

Physical processes governing how light travels through and interacts with a gas or plasma, including absorption, emission, and scattering of radiative energy.
