High-precision radial velocity (RV) measurements

Over 15-18 years, CORALIE made careful measurements of how much these stars wobbled back and forth – this is called "radial velocity" measurement.

Technical definition

Radial velocity measurements involve repeatedly measuring the star's Doppler shift, which is caused by the star's motion along our line of sight.
