Bolometric luminosity function (LF)

To figure out more about these glowing dots, you start studying how many of them exist throughout different periods of time. This is a bit like tracking the population growth of cities on Earth over centuries – but instead, it's galaxies and their supermassive black holes growing strong!

Technical definition

A statistical distribution describing the relationship between the bolometric luminosity (total energy output) of objects and their number density.
