Atmospheric escape
Think of atmospheric escape like water draining from a bucket with holes in it. If those holes (from the super-UV rays) are big enough or if too much water flows out over time, eventually there won't be any left – and all living creatures will have trouble finding freshwater.
Technical definition
The process by which a planet's atmosphere escapes into space due to intense stellar radiation.
